New Community Center

Hello, Meridian. Last week, the city of Meridian broke ground on a new community center, a project that has been years in the making. Any major investment in our future. This will be a place where families gather, kids learn and play, seniors stay active, and neighbors build the connections that make our city special. Creating a modern community center has been one of my top priorities.

Our current facility, built in the 1960s, has served several purposes and generations of Meridian residents. As our city has grown. Though it is clear we need more space, while we have added space to the home court for classes over the last few years. The existing 4000 square foot downtown building simply isn't large enough to meet today's needs. This new community center will be part of Settler's Park, and is part of an 11 acre expansion that will bring a new dog park, open greenspace, and additional parking.

The expanded parking is being done in partnership with the Meridian Youth Baseball. And we appreciate their commitment to the project. At 26,000ft². It is significantly larger and has been funded by impact fees to help ensure growth is paying for growth. Inside, there will be spaces to say active rooms for meetings and classes, expanded programing from our parks and recreation team, and opportunities for art, which includes a kiln and a stage for community events. This facility is also a partnership with the Meridian Fire Department.

The community center will include a fire safety center that will provide hands-on, lifesaving education and prevention programs for residents of all ages. This new community center reflects years of planning, meaningful community input, strong partnerships, and the commitment of our City Council staff and residents who have helped shape this vision. I am proud of what this project represents, and I can't wait to see it filled with activity for Meridian residents for years to come. It is the next step in ensuring that Meridian remains a premier community in which to live, work and raise a family.
