A Strategic Vision for Meridian's Future

Planning for the future is one of the most important responsibilities of city leadership. Since 2015, the City of Meridian has been looking ahead and setting priorities through the adoption of a Strategic Plan. Each plan is guided by a clear vision: By 2035, Meridian will be the West’s premier community in which to live, work and raise a family.

The strategic framework has stayed consistent since the adoption of the first two plans and our 2026-2030 Strategic Plan continues to outline our focus areas that will help guide our priorities over the next five years. The focus areas are as follows:

• Responsible Growth: Meridian will promote growth that enhances its long-term comprehensive vision. We will encourage infill development and diverse housing options to promote high-quality communities.
• Transportation and Infrastructure: Meridian will invest in a more connected and safe community. We will utilize resources to advance priority road improvement projects that include pathways, sidewalks, and a multi-modal approach to solve transportation deficiencies.
• Business and Economic Vitality: Meridian will make downtown a destination and grow its targeted commercial areas to ensure a balanced economic base that supports family-wage job creation. We will retain and recruit businesses and services in our targeted industries and that meet the needs of our community.
• Public Health and Safety: Meridian will invest in services and infrastructure that are essential to preserve and protect life. We will provide timely police and fire services; protect, supply, and treat our city’s water supply; and enhance access to quality healthcare for our citizens.
• Vibrant and Sustainable Community: Meridian will create vibrant places for our citizens, embrace sustainable practices, and preserve natural spaces. We will provide innovatively designed parks and recreational offerings. We will respond to citizen desires to be stewards of our natural environment.We will partner with our community and developers to create beautiful open spaces and cultivate art and cultural opportunities.
• Government Excellence: Meridian will encourage open, transparent, fiscally responsible, innovative, and approachable government. We will focus on our employees’ needs, embody our CARE values, utilize proactive communication with our citizens and stakeholders to enhance engagement, and continuously improve the delivery of services to the community.

These focus areas and associated goals were approved by City Council on March 3. Next, the City Departments are working on the tactics to achieve the identified items. These tactics will be brought forward to City Council in the coming months to lay out the plan towards achieving our goals and ultimately our vision as a City.

With this strategic plan as our guide, Meridian will continue delivering exceptional service through dedicated employees who are committed to responsibly stewarding public resources and ensuring our community remains vibrant, livable, and connected.
