MERIDIAN – The City of Meridian’s annual Trash or Treasure event has opened for registration. Designed to help divert items from the landfill, this community-wide event is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025, and Sunday, May 18, 2025.
“The Trash or Treasure weekend is truly a neighborhood event. It’s great to see so many neighbors working together year after year to keep items out of the landfill by reusing,” said Sayard Schultz, City of Meridian’s Solid Waste Coordinator.
During this event, registered residents can place clean, gently used items at their curb, where fellow residents (Treasure Hunters) can search for one-of-a-kind treasures. Once registered, your address will be added to an online treasure map, making it easy for Treasure Hunters to find participating homes.
Registration for Trash or Treasure is available online at meridiancity.org/tort.
“I am a big fan of Trash or Treasure.” Said Rebecca Weeks, Ada County Landfill’s Education and Outreach Manager. “By reusing items, the community can help extend the life of the local landfill. Once trash is deposited in the landfill, it stays there indefinitely and must be managed into the future. We can’t just walk away from it. This event truly does help save materials, reduce energy, and preserve history.”
If items remain unclaimed after the event, residents can consider donating them. A list of donation sites is available at meridiancity.org/donation-sites. Residents can also schedule a bulky item pick-up as part of Meridian’s year-round bulky item collection program. To schedule bulky items, please visit meridiancity.org/bulky-items.
